Forming responsible Citizens – Citizenship Education to prevent juvenile violence

– THE FORMATION OF RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS IN NORTH AFRICA AND THE MIDDLE EAST (2015-2018):

This project is part of the activities of the Fund for Global Citizenship Education (FEGC) and is implemented on behalf of the multilateral organization Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), which is made up of 53 countries, all of the European Union, as well as those south of the Mediterranean. So far it has received funding from the governments of Norway and Monaco, as well as from ideaborn.

OBJECTIVE: The project aims to strengthen the role of schools as the main vehicle for the teaching of values that promote sustainable and inclusive development, gender equality, and the prevention of youth violence. It has been implemented since April 2015 in Tunisia and Morocco, and from July 2017 in Lebanon and Jordan.

INITIAL RESULTS: Nearly 6,000 students and more than 600 education professionals from the participating countries have benefited from the project. For the consolidation of this initiative in the year 2017-2018, a diploma in participatory education is being designed for secondary school teachers. This program will also be applied in Colombia.

It is led by the Barcelona-based organisation, Ideaborn, in collaboration with the ideaborn Foundation, the Moroccan Center for Civic Education (MCCE), the Tunisian Social Development and Empowerment Center (SDEC), the Jordanian Centre for Civic Education, the Adyan Foundation and the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO.
